The inspiration for this piece is Faberge’s Rose Trellis Egg, seen opposite in all its glory.
You would not believe how difficult it is to produce perfectly shaped eggs. But Faberge is one of my true inspirations, and the time and effort it took to figure this out, is to me time spent well.
But as you can see I still have a long way to go. You can see 4 eggs here above, but what you can’t see is the other dozen or so that broke or failed and came before them.
I imagine there will be at least another 10-15 iterations before I finally finish this egg to a standard that will make me purr with satisfaction. And at that point I will have to say goodbye to it, for it is destined to be the property of one of our Greatest Ever Olympians, and a celebration of his record breaking career.
Faberge would have been proud of him too. Quite simply I am honoured by the commission.
